Pharmacognostical study of Geranium collinum Steph. growing in Uzbekistan
Subjects of research: rhizomes with roots and aerial part of Geranium collinum Steph., taken from botanically authentic plants.
Purpose of work: pharmacognostical study of Geranium collinum Steph, for substantiation of its application in practice of medicine.
Methods of research: morphologo-anatomic study of the raw-materials, chromatography (PC, TLC, column, GLC, HPLC), emission, absorption, UV-, IR-and mass-spectroscopy , chemical and merchandise inspecting methods for analysis, preclinical pharmacological investigations.
The results obtained and their novelty: the profound pharmacognostical study of a new prospective herbal plant of domestic flora - Geranium collinum Steph, has been carried out for the first time. Its specific biological activity, chemical nature and amount of the basic biological active substances’ groups have been determined. The dominant components of the plants - tannic substances were subjected to the profound chemical investigation. Tannic substances’ dynamics of accumulation has been studied. On the basic of the obtained results the optimal period for stocking up the plant materials was established. Standardization system for recommended species of Geranium collinum Steph, rude material was suggested. Techniques for assay and qualitative determination of the basic acting substances were developed, characteristics of identity and quality for the raw-materials were determined, an optimal shelf life for it was established as well.
Practical value: as a result of the carried out research, Geranium collinum Steph, rhizomes with roots and herb were recommended to medical practice as independent pharmaceutical products with antiinflammatory and antihypoxic activity, as well as for creating effective and harmless importsubstituting preparations on their base.
Degree of embed and economic effectivity: the projects of Provisional Pharmacopoeial Papers for Geranium collinum Steph, rhizomes with roots and herb have been developed and submitted to the Head Department of drug and medical equipment quality control under the Health Ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan for receiving a permission for using in practice of medicine.
The instructions on collecting and drying the proposal rude materials have been elaborated for purveyors.
The results of research were inculcated to the educational process at the departments of pharmacognosy , pharmacology and clinical pharmacy of the Tashkent pharmaceutical institute.
