Abstract:
In the modern education system, it has become necessary to
teach students not only traditional knowledge but also the skills of independent
thinking and active participation in social life. Today, an essential component of
this process is the development of functional literacy. The ability of students to
think independently plays a crucial role in expanding their worldview and
enhancing their creative potential. Therefore, it is necessary to apply innovative
approaches, methods, and strategies in developing functional literacy among
students.
Keywords:
Functional literacy, independent thinking, innovative methods,
student engagement, critical thinking, pedagogical technologies, logical analysis,
games, learning skills, preparation for social life.
Objective:
Functional literacy not only refers to acquiring knowledge but
also applying that knowledge in practice. This, in turn, requires the development
of students' ability to think independently, analyze, and make decisions in social
situations. Independent thinking helps students effectively utilize their
knowledge, clearly and precisely express their opinions, and find new solutions
to societal problems.
Innovative approaches and aethods:
Applying innovative methods in
developing students' independent thinking skills contributes to improving the
quality of education. Modern pedagogical technologies and methods provide
opportunities to teach students high-level critical thinking. The following
innovative methods can be considered[5].
Brainstorming method:
This method helps activate young students, solve
problems, and develop non-standard thinking. Encouraging students to resolve
complex situations, generate new ideas, exchange thoughts, and apply a critical
approach makes the learning process more effective.
“
Know, learned, want to know
”
method:
This method allows students to
reinforce their knowledge and understanding, generate interesting questions
about new information, and conduct independent research. It significantly aids
in independent thinking and applying learned information.

Logical chain method
:
Constructing logical sequences when analyzing
texts and understanding chemical processes helps students comprehend the
logical order of each process. This method organizes thinking, aids in solving
complex problems, and develops critical thinking.
Role-playing games and discussions:
Using role-playing games and
discussions as innovative methods allows students to understand and solve real-
life problems. Through this approach, students learn teamwork, decision-
making, and confidently expressing their opinions in discussions[2].
The importance of innovative methods in developing functional
literacy:
Applying innovative methods in developing functional literacy
provides numerous benefits to students. Firstly, these methods activate students
and increase their interest in learning. Secondly, they help students acquire
skills that meet the demands of the modern world. Moreover, these approaches
develop students’ ability to address social issues, create innovative solutions,
and make independent decisions.
Practical results of the research:
Effectiveness of innovative methods:
The innovative methods used to
teach students independent thinking, such as
“
Brainstorming
”,
“

”
and
“

”
activated students and helped develop their
critical thinking skills. These methods enabled students to solve problems,
generate new ideas, and engage in meaningful discussions[1].
Adaptation to modern educational requirements:
The methods applied in
developing functional literacy helped students acquire skills necessary to meet
modern-day demands. This, in turn, enhanced their ability to make decisions in
social and practical situations, find solutions to societal problems, and develop
creative thinking.
Formation of independent thinking skills:
Through innovative
approaches, students demonstrated improved independent thinking and
analytical skills. This not only contributed to their academic success but also
aided their personal development, as they learned to apply their knowledge in
practice and solve real-world problems.
Development of social skills:
Methods such as role-playing games and
discussions helped students understand and address social issues.
Consequently, their ability to work in groups, make decisions, and actively
participate in society was enhanced.
Significance of using innovative methods in education:
The results of the
study indicate that applying innovative methods in education has a significant

impact on students' overall development. These methods provide students with
essential skills to solve contemporary social problems effectively[3].
Methodology:
Research methodology:
This study employed innovative pedagogical
methods to develop functional literacy and independent thinking skills among
students. The main focus was on modern educational methods and their impact
on students.
Experiments and methods:
The study examined the application of
innovative methods such as
“
Brainstorming
”,
“
Know, Learned, Want to Know
”
,
“

”
, role-playing games, and discussions. These methods helped
develop students’ independent thinking, critical analysis, problem-solving, and
decision-making skills.
Data collection and analysis:
The study involved observing students'
activities and gathering their feedback. Data was collected through discussions,
group activities, and surveys to assess students’ engagement and success in
applying these methods.
Analytical approach:
Special attention was given to analyzing how
students perceived innovative methods and their impact on the learning
process. The effectiveness of the methods was assessed based on students’
cognitive development and critical thinking skills.
Results and recommendations:
The study concluded that using innovative
methods is effective in fostering independent thinking and functional literacy
among students. These methods enable students to generate new ideas, solve
problems, and make informed decisions in social contexts[6].
Conclusion:
Developing independent thinking and functional literacy is a key direction
in modern education. Innovative approaches and methods enhance not only
students’ academic abilities but also their social and practical skills. Teaching
students to think independently and critically contributes to their personal
development, creative thinking, and successful adaptation to contemporary
society. Therefore, integrating innovative methods into education significantly
impacts students' overall development and prepares them for complex social
challenges in the future.
