Abstract:
This article discusses the theoretical foundations and practical
importance of using authentic materials in the development of linguistic
competence. Authentic materials are considered an effective tool for teaching
language learning based on real-life situations and forming oral and written
speech skills in students. The article also emphasizes that these materials
increase motivation for language learning, help to understand the cultural
context, and strengthen communicative competence. According to the results of
the study, the educational process organized using authentic materials serves to
jointly develop the linguistic and cultural knowledge of students.
Keywords:
Language teaching, interactive methods, real communication,
linguistic competence, intercultural communication, educational technologies.
Introduction:
In today's globalization process, the introduction of new,
effective approaches and innovative methods in the field of foreign language
teaching is gaining importance. In particular, the use of authentic materials in
the formation and development of students' linguistic competence is emerging
as one of the relevant directions of the educational process. Authentic materials
are materials created by native speakers for real communicative situations,
which have unique didactic possibilities for language learners.
Authentic materials, with their structure, content and contextual approach,
introduce students to the real language environment, prepare them for natural
communication, and also allow them to study language elements in a functional
context. This develops not only linguistic knowledge, but also cultural,
communicative, pragmatic and stylistic skills. Authentic materials include
magazine and newspaper articles, video and audio recordings, advertising texts,
blogs, podcasts, interviews, social media posts, songs, films and official
documents.
With the help of authentic texts, learners learn to understand the real use of
the language today, its stylistic features and cultural connotations. This is
especially important in the development of linguistic competence, because
language is not just a set of grammatical rules, but a complex phenomenon that
lives in a socio-cultural context. Authentic texts, correctly selected by teachers,

involve students in real speech activity, prepare them for communication, and
encourage independent thinking.
Practice shows that classes organized on the basis of authentic materials
increase motivation for language learning, increase interest in the language, and
serve to master the social and cultural aspects of the language being studied. In
this process, students' oral and written speech activity increases, their ability to
work with the language, that is, linguistic competence, is further strengthened.
Also, through tasks developed on the basis of authentic materials, students
develop knowledge about vocabulary, phraseological units, stylistic devices, and
subtle differences in the meaning of speech acts. This allows them to deeply
understand the language, analyze connotative and denotative meanings, and use
communicative strategies.
In short, the use of authentic materials in the formation of linguistic
competence increases the quality and effectiveness of education. This approach
makes the learning process vital, meaningful, and contextual. Through authentic
means, learners develop language sensitivity, speech flexibility, and readiness
for intercultural communication. Therefore, the systematic and consistent
integration of this methodology into curricula remains one of the priorities of
modern language education.
Main part:
Due to the increasing need for learning foreign languages in
today's globalization process, the formation of linguistic competence in the
education system has become one of the urgent issues. Linguistic competence is
understood not only as grammatical knowledge, but also as a set of phonetic,
lexical, syntactic, stylistic knowledge, as well as the skills to apply them in
practice. In the formation of this competence, modern methods, in particular, the
use of authentic materials, play an important role.
Authentic materials are texts, audio, video, and other types of information
media intended for communication in real life, not specially created for the
educational process. Examples include newspaper and magazine articles, radio
broadcasts, interviews, film clips, online forums, advertising texts, blogs and
posts on social networks.
Such materials have the following advantages: they bring students closer to
the real language environment; serve to form intercultural competence; teach
vocabulary in a natural context; develop communication-based skills; increase
motivation, because learners see how the language is used "in real life".
Numerous studies have shown that the use of authentic materials increases
students' enthusiasm for language learning, broadens their horizons and

encourages independent learning. Also, through this approach, language
learning moves from being a formal process based solely on grammar to a more
natural, vital and meaningful activity.
The use of authentic materials in the formation of linguistic competence is
important not only for the quality of education, but also for improving the
communicative readiness of students. Through this approach, students learn the
language in a real context, understand cultural differences, and develop the skills
to effectively express their thoughts. This serves one of the main goals of
modern education - the formation of knowledge and skills used in life and
professional activities.
In conclusion
, the use of authentic materials is of great importance as a
modern and effective tool in the formation and development of linguistic
competence. Such materials allow students to learn the language not in an
artificial environment, but in a real-life context. This, in turn, not only deepens
grammatical knowledge, but also expands vocabulary, forms intercultural
communication skills, and prepares for real communication.
