Аннотация:
В этой статье рассматриваются лингвокультурные и
социальные аспекты детской литературы доктора Сьюза, уделяя особое
внимание тому, как образный язык передает сложные темы, такие как расовое
равенство, охрана окружающей среды и авторитаризм. С помощью
качественного анализа произведений «Снитеч», «Лоракс» и «Черепашка Йертл»
в исследовании подчеркивается, как стилистические приемы, такие как рифма,
метафора и неологизмы, служат семиотическими инструментами для морального
и культурного обучения. Исследование подчеркивает педагогическую и
дискурсивную силу детской литературы в формировании этического и
когнитивного развития юных читателей в более широких социолингвистических
контекстах.

Ushbu maqolada doktor Seuss yozgan bolalar asarlarining
lingvomadaniy va ijtimoiy jihatlari ko‘rib chiqilib, irqiy tenglik, ekologiya va
avtoritarizm kabi murakkab mavzularni tasavvuriy holda qanday ifodalashiga e’tibor
qaratiladi. “Sneetches”, “Lorax” va “The Turtle Yertl” asarlarini tahlil qilish orqali
tadqiqot qofiya, metafora va neologizmlar kabi stilistik vositalar axloqiy va madaniy

Introduction.
Children’s literature has long served as a powerful medium for
transmitting not only linguistic knowledge but also cultural values, social ideologies,
and moral teachings. [1:35] Among the most influential figures in this field is Theodor
Seuss Geisel, known globally as Dr. Seuss, whose works continue to resonate with
generations of young readers. Through imaginative language, rhythmical verse, and
vivid illustrations, Dr. Seuss constructs narratives that are both linguistically engaging
and culturally meaningful.
This study explores the linguocultural narratives and
underlying social themes embedded in Dr. Seuss’s children's books, with a specific
focus on how language functions as a vehicle for expressing complex societal issues in
a form accessible to children. By employing elements of linguocultural analysis and
critical discourse, the research investigates how Seuss subtly introduces topics such as
racial equality, environmentalism, authoritarianism, and individual freedom through
playful yet purposeful language.
By analyzing selected works such as The Sneetches, The Lorax, and Yertle the
Turtle, this paper aims to uncover how Dr. Seuss’s unique linguistic style contributes
to the transmission of socio-cultural messages.
Methods
.
This research utilizes a qualitative textual analysis approach, drawing
on methods from linguocultural studies, semiotics, and critical discourse analysis. The
primary data consists of three children’s books by Dr. Seuss - The Sneetches, The
Lorax, and Yertle the Turtle - selected for their explicit engagement with social themes.

Discussion.
The analysis reveals that Dr. Seuss’s works are not merely
entertaining stories for children but serve as sophisticated vehicles for cultural
commentary. In The Sneetches, the use of repetitive rhyme and absurdist characters
highlights issues of racial discrimination and social exclusion. The “stars upon thars”
become symbolic of arbitrary social divisions, and the narrative’s resolution reflects a
hopeful vision of unity and equality. Dr. Seuss’s trademark rhyme scheme emphasizes
the contrast between the Sneetches with stars and those without, making the social
divisions catchy and memorable.
“Now, the Star-Belly Sneetches had bellies with stars.
The Plain-Belly Sneetches had none upon thars.” [2:3]
This simple, repetitive couplet structure reflects the repetitive nature of
discrimination itself — arbitrary, but reinforced again and again.
The characters themselves are fantastical — bird-like creatures with stars on
their bellies — which makes the social commentary more accessible and universal.
“But, because they had stars, all the Star-Belly Sneetches
Would brag, ‘We’re the best kind of Sneetch on the beaches.”[2:4]
The absurdity of their pride based on a simple star shape points to how irrational
real-world discrimination often is.
The story reflects racial and social hierarchies, as
the Star-Belly Sneetches treat the Plain-Belly ones as inferior:
“They kept them away. Never let them come near.
In
The Lorax
, Seuss adopts a more didactic tone, using metaphor and alliteration
to address environmental degradation and corporate greed. The Lorax, who “speaks for
the trees,” functions as a linguistic embodiment of environmental conscience. The
Once-ler’s fragmented and evasive speech contrasts with the Lorax’s directness,
illustrating the moral imbalance between exploitation and stewardship.
Dr. Seuss uses
the metaphor of the Truffula Trees and the Bar-ba-loots, Swomee-Swans, and
Humming-Fish to show how the environment is destroyed for profit.
“I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues.
And I'm asking you, sir, at the top of my lungs—
That you stop! And desist! And not cut down another!” [3:22]
Yertle the Turtle
serves as a satirical reflection on authoritarian rule, where the
king’s desire to climb higher is built upon the physical oppression of others. The
cumulative rhythm of the text mirrors the rising tension, while the sudden fall of Yertle
underscores the fragility of power built on inequality.
Yertle is clearly a metaphor for a
dictator or authoritarian ruler — his obsession with being “higher” reflects greed for
power and dominance.
“I’m ruler,” said Yertle, “of all that I see.
But I don’t see enough. That’s the trouble with me.” [4: 8]

Conclusion.
This study set out to explore the intersection of language, culture,
and social themes in the children’s literature of Dr. Seuss. Through the analysis of
The
Sneetches
,
The Lorax
, and
Yertle the Turtle
, it has become evident that Dr. Seuss
utilized a highly stylized and imaginative linguistic framework to address deep rooted
societal issues such as racial prejudice, environmental destruction, and
authoritarianism. The linguocultural approach revealed how specific language choices
— including neologisms, rhythmic structures, and metaphorical characters — operate
as semiotic tools that encode cultural values and ideologies.[5:8] Dr. Seuss’s ability to
simplify complex ethical concepts without sacrificing narrative depth exemplifies the
pedagogical power of children’s literature. From a psycholinguistic perspective, Dr.
Seuss’s inventive use of language fosters early cognitive engagement and supports
moral development through affective immersion. [6:103]As such, his work serves as a
valuable site for further research at the intersection of language acquisition, cultural
discourse, and literary studies.
In conclusion, Dr. Seuss’s contributions to children’s literature transcend
entertainment; they reflect a unique synthesis of linguistic artistry and sociocultural
consciousness.
