Today, the Internet has become an integral part of our daily lives. Students,

workers, and people working in various fields use the unlimited possibilities of
the Internet: to get information, study, work, communicate, relax, play games,
and many other activities. The convenience of the Internet allows us to connect
with the world, quickly learn the news, acquire modern knowledge, and develop
ourselves in various fields. However, along with all these benefits of the Internet,
its excessive use can also lead to negative consequences. Internet addiction is
becoming increasingly widespread, especially among young people. Students
use the Internet not only to study, but also to spend time, communicate with
friends on social networks, and play games. However, the growth of Internet
addiction can have a negative impact on the educational process, social
development, and mental and physical well-being of students.

The problem of Internet addiction was first observed and studied

psychologically by psychotherapists. The expansion of this phenomenon,
especially among young people, has created a need for its analysis and study in
the scientific community. From a psychological point of view, Internet addiction

affects not only the technology itself, but also the personal, mental and social
state of the individual. One of the first scientific researchers on this issue was the
clinical psychologist K. Yang, who began to study Internet addiction
psychologically and is considered one of the founders of this field .

Katherine Young is one of the psychologists who began to study Internet

addiction on a scientific basis. She defined Internet addiction in 1998 and began
to study the psychological, social, and psychological negative effects of excessive
Internet use. She developed her famous “Young’s Internet Addiction Test (IAT)”,
which is widely used to identify Internet addiction. The IAT can be used to
determine excessive Internet use among students and adults, and how it affects
education and daily life. According to Young, Internet addiction is a result of a
loss of psychological autonomy and balance, which encourages a person to
withdraw into their inner world and isolate themselves from social contacts. She
connects this condition with social and psychological changes.

Mark Griffiths is also one of the scientists who made important

contributions to the study of Internet addiction. He explains Internet addiction,
in particular addiction to online games, mainly as a reaction to game-based
rewards and competitive environments. According to Griffiths, Internet
addiction, like other addictions, grows through the development of a reward
system or a certain repetitive behavior. He emphasized in his research that
social interaction and a return to the real world are necessary to overcome
Internet addiction, because in a virtual environment a person can forget about
his real feelings and needs .

This phenomenon is especially widespread among young people in grades

7-9. Students spend a lot of time on the Internet, which reduces their attention
to academics, homework, and real communication with friends. Over time,
increased Internet addiction can also affect young people's mood, behavior,
social integration, and communication with other young people. Such situations
can damage students' overall health, self-confidence, and social skills.

David Caplan has also conducted a number of important studies on the

study of Internet addiction. He links Internet addiction to difficulties in social
relationships and communication. In his studies, Caplan found that excessive use
of the Internet often reduces people's social relationships in real life, which in
turn turns the Internet into an addiction. In his opinion, it is important to
strengthen a person's social relationships in real life and self-awareness
processes. According to Caplan's analysis, people tend to become overly

dependent on their virtual relationships and avoid problems that occur in reality
.

It is necessary to introduce effective methods for protecting students from

Internet addiction, as well as educational programs to develop the rational use
of modern technologies. At the same time, it is necessary to develop educational
and advocacy programs to prevent Internet addiction by the state and school
systems. These programs should be aimed at reducing students' dependence on
online games, social networks or other virtual environments. In order to form a
culture of healthy Internet use in society, it is important to implement
comprehensive programs that affect the social and psychological state of young
people and students, not limited to educational programs alone. As a result,
preventing Internet addiction and taking effective measures against it requires
joint efforts that unite not only students, but also all those around them -
parents, teachers, educators, psychologists and society. This is the best way to
connect young people more deeply to the real world and teach them to manage
their time wisely and effectively
