challenges for maintaining consistent tourism revenue and employment. As tourism grows, there is
an increasing risk of environmental degradation, particularly in areas such as the Aral Sea region,
where water scarcity has led to the deterioration of the environment. Sustainable tourism practices
must be adopted to mitigate negative environmental impacts while ensuring the long-term viability of
natural tourist sites.
Tourism in Uzbekistan has significant growth potential, driven by the country’s historical and
cultural heritage, government initiatives, and natural landscapes. While challenges such as inadequate
infrastructure, seasonal tourism, and limited international awareness persist, there are ample
opportunities for further development. By focusing on sustainable tourism, expanding niche markets,
and leveraging modern digital tools, Uzbekistan can enhance its position as a leading tourist
destination in Central Asia. As the tourism sector continues to evolve, it will contribute significantly
to the country’s economic diversification, job creation, and cultural exchange. Continued investment
in infrastructure, policy reforms, and international marketing is essential to harness the full potential
of Uzbekistan’s tourism industry.

Tourism is currently one of the fastest-growing and highest-earning sectors in the world. In
particular, the achievements in Uzbekistan are based on deepening economic liberalization,
modernizing the country, and ensuring the stable development of all sectors – especially tourism,
which is one of the leading branches of the service industry. As the First President of the Republic,
I.A.Karimov emphasized: “It is obvious to all of us that the service sector is one of the most important
sources and factors for the stable development of our economy. Global experience shows that this
sector plays a leading role in forming gross domestic product, ensuring employment, and improving
people’s well-being". [1]
The development of the tourism industry in Uzbekstan is a direction for strengthening the socio-
economic situation of the country, which requires the activation of regulatory processes by the same
state, the study of the tourist asistance market, the development of specific programs for tourism
education. In accordance with the Decree of the President of Republic of Uzbekistan dated July 28,
1992, the National Company “Uzbektourism“ was established. This company has been working for
several years to restore national and international tourism, improve the material, technical and
regulatory base, develop new tourism products, update excursion topics, fully organize existing tourist
bases and create new ones. In 1993, the Uzbektourism National Company became a member of the
World Tourism Organization. This provided the opportunity to develop tourism [2;8]
It should be noted that the number of tourists received in the republic reached 550 thousand
people, of which 165 thousand were foreign tourists in 1993. The volume of tourism services in
foreign currency (in US dollars ) increased from 101.2 million dollars to 198 million dollars when
calculating foreign currency receipts in national currency, the share of tourism in the gross domestic
product of all service sectors by 1996 was approximately 9% and foreign currency receipts were 67,5
% In addition, since 2000, the tourism sector of our republic has started to develop at a rapid pace.
The revenues generated from it began to contribute to the republic’s economy by 20% percent or
more annually. [3;10]
Tourism also has not only benefited the country’s economy, but also helped increase employment
by creating new job opportunities for many young people .According to the statistics in websites, in
2022, a total of 735 projects worth 22,1 trillion UZS were launched in the tourism sector, creating
nearly 23, 000 mew jobs in the industry. It should be noted that the adminstrative units with high
tourism potential in the republic have been granted the titles of “Tourism Neighborhood” “Tourism
Village” and “Tourism Hamlet” and mechanisms for their support have been implemented. For the
first time in our country a “Tourism Village” was established in the Konigil Village of Samarkand
district, which has 52 landcraft and recreation facilities, providing employment to more than 200 local
residents. [4]
In coclusion, the increasing number of foreign tourists visiting Uzbekstan and the year-on-year
growth in their arrivals indicate not only a rising interest in our country but also the valuable
contribution that the tourism sector is making to our economy.
