INTRODUCTION

The formation of a personal culture in the context of

new trends in the socio-cultural development of the

country is one of the most important problems of

education today. And this is the great educational role

of museum and exhibition projects, which must fulfill

its educational and culture-creating function. Museum

and exhibition activities, along with educational

activities, are one of the components of the

sociocultural space of art museums in modern

Uzbekistan, which contributes to modeling the

educational system of visitors by introducing them to

cultural and aesthetic values through museum

pedagogy.

THE MAIN RESULTS AND FINDINGS

In recent years, the status of museum and exhibition

activities has increased in Uzbekistan as a large-scale

phenomenon in the cultural life of the country. Over

the years of independence, we discovered the world,

and the world discovered us. In this sense, I would like

to note the exhibition activities of the State Museum

of Arts of Uzbekistan. Over the years of its existence, it

has become one of the leading cultural, educational

and scientific centers of the country. A large collection

of artistic works was realized in original exhibition

projects, which immediately attracted the attention of

a wide audience to the State Museum of Uzbekistan

and made it one of the most sought-after art museums

in the country. The birth of original exhibition projects

is preceded by a thoughtful concept, knowledge and

careful selection of material, the creation of an

extraordinary artistic and exhibition solution - a holistic

artistic image in which the interior of the exhibition

space becomes a kind of canvas, and the works

become a palette.

The State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan is one of the

most visited museums in the republic. Every year its

doors open to thousands of visitors. The museum

makes a great contribution to the development of the

spiritual culture of our country, introducing the public

to masterpieces of the world and national artistic

heritage. During 2013-2023, the State Museum of

Uzbekistan gained wide popularity not only in the CIS,

but throughout the world, thanks to participation in

foreign exhibitions as one of the oldest and richest

treasuries of unique monuments of art and cultural

heritage in Central Asia.

For example, in 2013, the State Museum of Uzbekistan

hosted a vernissage of the graphic artist Fatkhulla

Khaitov and two master classes conducted by the head

of the restoration laboratory, Bakhtiyor Batyrov, with

great success. The master classes took their rightful

place

within the framework of the special “Museum

Month” program developed by the Ministry of Culture

and Sports of Uzbekistan. Thus, in an interesting,

fascinating form, students of the Republican Art

College were told about the methods of restoring

works of painting, wood, ceramic and porcelain,

including the example of such types of work organized

in the restoration workshop of our museum. Before

this, the children were given a tour of the museum,

they looked at the exhibition of the artist D.

Mamedova, they visited the scientific and educational

exhibition “Music of the Glacier” and took part in a

master class prepared jointly with the Goethe Institute

in Tashkent. The exhibition of ceramics by the great

20th century artist Pablo Picasso and graphics by

Nadez

hda Kashina from the museum’s collections

aroused great public interest.

The exhibition of the first Uzbek artist Shamsroy

Khasanova, “Palette of the Female Soul” was the name

of the exhibition dedicated to the artist’s work. It

opened on November 19, 2013. The name of

Sh.Khasanova is associated with the creation of a

unique gallery of images of Uzbek poetesses, painted

by her in the style of miniatures. The exhibition

presents many of the works in this series, as well as

other paintings by the author - landscapes, still lifes,

scenes of urban and rural life. The life of Sh.Khasanova

is closely intertwined with the State Museum of Arts of

Uzbekistan. While still an art student, she began

working at the museum as a tour guide. Then, for many

years, Sh. Khasanova worked at the museum as a

research assistant, and during the last 10 years of her

life, since 1946, she was its director. Despite the fact

that Shamsroy Khasanova lived only 39 years, she

made an invaluable contribution to the culture and art

of Uzbekistan both as the first Uzbek artist and as a

devotee of museum activities.

In 2014, the State Museum of Uzbekistan hosted the

exhibition “Music of the Glacier”, which began to

attract public attention to the problem of melting

glaciers. Today, this problem is especially relevant for

the countries of Central Asia, since their total area in

this territory is huge. The cultural and didactic

exhibition “Music of the Glacier” was held in an

unusual, exciting format: the exhibition consisted not

only of paintings and photographs, but also didactic

interactive components, films, communicative tasks,

as well as games created based on the works of the

laureates of the Open Competition “Music of the

Glacier” (Central Asia) and German young designers

-

winners of competitions held in Berlin and Hamburg

(Germany). The meaning of the installation became

clear even to the uninitiated - by allowing glaciers to

melt, humanity is losing huge reserves of fresh water.

In the exhibition, the actual noise of a real glacier was

reproduced through a video clip, and visitors had the

opportunity to hear it. And when you hear the music of

a melting glacier, the roar of large streams of water

rushing down, a very alarming feeling arises.

In 2022, a personal exhibition of the artist Gulchekhra

Rakhimova entitled “Look” opened at the State

Museum of Uzbekistan. At the exhibition, the director

of the Republican Specialized Art School named after

P. Benkov, Umidjon Khakimov, and the academician of

the Academy of Arts of the Republic of Uzbekistan,

Lekim Khakimovich Ibragimov, delivered welcoming

speeches.

In 2022, a round table was held at the State Museum of

Uzbekistan on the topic “The Work of Chingiz

Akhmarov through the Eyes of Specialists,” dedicated

to the work of the People’s Artist of

Uzbekistan Chingiz

Akhmarov. Speakers at the event were: People's Artist

of Uzbekistan, academician Bakhodir Jalolov, member

of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, representative

of the dynasty of Chingiz Akhmarov - Shakhnoz

Abdullayeva, member of the Academy of Arts of

Uzbekistan, student of Chingiz Akhmarov Sadyk

Rakhmanov, the speakers presented interesting

information about the life and work of the great artist.

The conversation made a great impression on the

youth.

In order to implement the Resolution of the President

of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated May 27, 2022, UP-

No. 261 “On the development of the service sector in

museums,” a painting master class was held at the

State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan for children

studying at the “My nest” education

al center and

students presented to display your works of art.

As part of the “Art Week 2022”, a round table

discussion and an open lecture on the topic: “Excerpts

from the history of Sogdian inscriptions” were held at

the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan by professor

of the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies

Mirsadyk Iskhakov. The event was attended by

students

of

higher

educational

institutions,

representatives The media, museum researchers, the

younger generation interested in history.

In May 2023, a traveling exhibition of the State

Historical Museum of Uzbekistan was exhibited at

secondary school No. 64 in Tashkent. The museum

staff delighted the high school students; reproductions

of the fine arts of Uzbekistan from the museum’s

exposition were installed in the school foyer. The

museum’s art critic expressed the hope that someone

will become seriously interested in beauty and,

perhaps, in the future will become a museum expert

and museum employee.

On May 18, 2023, the opening ceremony of a new art

exhibition “Uzbekistan XX

- XXI centuries: Painting and

Sculpture” was held at the State Museum of

Uzbekistan in connection with the International Day of

Museums. On the same day, the personal exhibition of

the People’s Artist of Uzbekistan Bahadir

Jalolov “Line

to Eternity” opened.

Museum and exhibition activities of Tashkent

museums as a factor in organizing the educational

process are a very common occurrence. In this sense,

regional museums of Uzbekistan also have interesting

museum and exhibition projects, in particular the

exhibition activities of the Samarkand State Art

Museum-Reserve. The museum-reserve includes 8

museums, 6 historical monuments, 2 shrines. The

museum's collections contain more than 211,000

exhibits. The museum's facilities are visited by more

than 800,000 visitors a year. More than 20 different

exhibitions are organized annually in the halls of the

museum-reserve.

Among the latest significant exhibitions of the

Samarkand State Art Museum-Reserve, one can

highlight the “Aral

-d

ream” exhibition. The legendary

Aral tragedy has no analogues in world history. And,

perhaps, there is no person on the planet who has not

heard about this at least once. The tragedy worries

environmental scientists and the surrounding

population, writers, artists and actors. There is a

regular flow of tourists here. And their countless

photographs and videos on social networks,

documentaries and paintings by artists indicate that

the long-standing environmental issue remains

relevant. The exhibition “Aral

-

dream” involves 7 artists

from different regions of our country. These are Nukus,

Tashkent, Urgench. Vasily Khapov, Saidbek Sabirbaev,

Shirin

Tashova,

Sarsenbai

Boybusinov,

Sobir

Kutlimurodov, Abdulla Razhabov, Ikram Matchanov.

The Aral-dream exhibition is about revealing and

strengthening opinions about a new tourist

destination. The desire to show the beauty of

forgotten places through paintings. There is a saying by

Pablo Picasso: “Life is short, Art is forever!” So,

through art, we made an attempt to immortalize on

canvas the Aral region with all its charms, joys,

traditions, everyday life and holidays.

The next interesting exhibition is “The Great Silk Road

-

the golden heritage of Uzbekistan and China.” The

organization of this exhibition in Samarkand, the most

important historical center of culture of world

significance, shows the historical roots of modern

political, economic and cultural interaction between

the states of Uzbekistan and China, which for many

centuries formed the main links of the Great Silk Road.

In this context, the exhibition created in Samarkand,

located in a historical building (the building was built at

the beginning of the 20th century for a Russian-Chinese

bank), should also be considered. The opening of this

exhibition took place in September 2022 and was timed

to coincide with the days of the SCO meeting in

Samarkand. The presentation of exhibits uses mainly

digital technologies 3D mapping, hologram - a modern

technology of volumetric gala projection in space

based on conceived plots in the form of short

spectacular paintings, animations, etc. The exhibition

includes examples of art and artistic crafts (textiles,

ceramics, embossing and etc.) from the collection of

the Samarkand State Museum-Reserve.

It is also necessary to note the exhibition activities of

the Directorate of Art Exhibitions of the Academy of

Arts of Uzbekistan. Since 1959, DHV has carried out a

wide stationary and traveling exhibition practice in

collaboration with museums and galleries of the

Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, Ministries of the CIS

countries and foreign museum institutions. Every year,

DHW holds over 50 exhibitions (stationary and

traveling

exhibitions)

in

Uzbekistan

before

participating in large-scale international exhibition

events, such as “Uzbekistan on the Silk Road” in

Stuttgart (Germany, 1995), “Art and Culture of the

Timurid Era” in France (1996 g.), Expo 2000 in

Hannover, etc.

DHW plans are formed in advance, taking into account

the main directions of museum and exhibition

activities. These are republican and international

exhibitions, thematic and traveling, personal and

group, exhibitions of artists celebrating their

anniversaries; exhibitions from museum and private

collections, from the creative heritage of recognized

masters of art of Uzbekistan; exhibitions dedicated to

traditional crafts and the creativity of young people.

Among them, the most significant in scale are the

annual republican events “Eng Ulug, Eng Aziz”,

dedicated to the Independence Day of Uzbekistan and

the Festival of Traditional Crafts held annually for the

Navruz holiday.

The creative team of the DHV always gives preference

to thematic conceptual exhibitions and retrospectives

representing the art of any region of Uzbekistan or a

separate type of art that needs special coverage and

which, in addition to narrow workshop problems and

the demonstration of new works, allows us to present

and expand our own museum collection. Illustrative

examples are the exhibition “Surkhandarya. Valley of

Legends” 2013, where a wide retros

pective of

archaeological material, fine and folk art of the region,

and

photography

was

presented;

exhibition-

competition “My Mahalla” 2014; “Folk crafts of

Bukhara and Kashkadarya”, “Traditional textiles and

Festival in 2014 and 2015. and many others.

It must be admitted that we are still far from the

progress in restoration and exhibition practice that

exists abroad. The funds allocated for the technical

equipment of our museums and exhibitions and for

replenishing collections are too modest. We have a rich

cultural and historical heritage in modern fine and folk

art. The goal of the Directorate’s exhibition projects is

to educate people in respect for their own history, their

own and the world’s cultural

heritage, and any possible

means are good to achieve this goal.

Over the years of independence, our audience's

acquaintance with the world cultural heritage and

foreign art has intensified. This occurs, as a rule, thanks

to the activities of foreign embassies and

representative offices. The most accessible cultural

information is provided through foreign photographic

materials. Thus, one cannot fail to note the excellent

work of the Japan Foundation and the Embassy of

Japan in Uzbekistan, which annually introduce us to

wonderful visual material - several exhibitions of

traditional and modern ceramics, dolls, posters and

photographs, organized in the halls of the Academy of

Arts, became a celebration of communication with

high art and culture of presentation of exhibition

material.

I would like to note the series of design exhibitions

organized by the German and French embassies,

painting and photography exhibitions organized by the

Latvian Embassy, and the annual, now traditional,

creative meetings of Korean and Uzbek artists.

Among the exhibitions of foreign art of the period of

independence, the majority are occupied by art

exhibitions, among which we can highlight personal,

retrospective, collective, international competition,

and program exhibitions. For example, the exhibition

of folk art of Uzbekistan in France, organized with the

assistance of the City Hall of the 11th arrondissement of

Paris and the Embassy of Uzbekistan in 2015, became a

pleasant event in the cultural life of the country.

Residents of Lyon and Beaugency also became

acquainted with the work of Uzbek folk artists.

Unfortunately, such exchange exhibitions are rare and

are held only in Representative Offices of Uzbekistan

abroad, and not on professional platforms.

Over the past 20 years, a lot of positive experience has

developed in the field of holding international

competitive exhibitions. Important events in the

cultural life of the republic were the Tashkent Biennale

of Contemporary Art (2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009,

2011, 2013, 2018, 2022), which have a great impact on

the development of innovative trends in the art of

Uzbekistan.

In 2017, the exhibition “Treasures of Nukus” was held

in Moscow at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts.

The exhibition featured more than 250 works of

painting and graphics, as well as objects of archeology

and decorative and applied art from the collection of

one of the largest museums in Uzbekistan - the State

Museum of Art of the Republic of Karakalpakstan

named after Savitsky. According to experts, the

collection of the Savitsky Museum is the second-largest

collection of Russian avant-garde works in the world

after the collection of the Russian Museum in St.

Petersburg. Over 30 years, Savitsky collected more

than 44 thousand works of painting and graphics,

including works by such famous avant-garde artists as

Robert Falk, Lyubov Popova, Ivan Kudryashov, Kliment

Redko, Alexander Volkov, Alexander Nikolaev and

others.

On March 10, 2020, the opening of the exhibition

“Fashion of Uzbekistan: Yesterday and Today” took

place at the Tashkent House of Photography. The

exhibition is dedicated to the history of Uzbek fashion,

the thread of which stretches from the 1960s and

smoothly flows into the present day. The exhibition

project is organized by the Islam Karimov Foundation

and is aimed at popularizing the cultural and historical

heritage of Uzbekistan. The exhibition consisted of

two blocks: the first was dedicated to the history of the

1960s-2000s. It presents fashion magazines, sketches,

clothes and black and white photographs of the

capital's fashionistas against the backdrop of

landmarks that are still beloved to this day. Entering

the second block, you step onto the podium. On the

sides are the works of modern designers, and at this

moment there is a feeling that the mannequins are

spectators, and the guests are models. Having reached

the end of the catwalk, you pay attention to the mirror,

which represents the future of fashion. Thus, in the

House of Photography you can go through the path of

plunging into the history of fashion of the 1960s, into

the work of modern designers and imagine the bright

future of the country's fashion industry.

The creative style of modern designers is completely

different. Saida Amir, Taisiya Chursinova, LALI Fashion

House (Lali Fazylova), Moel Bosh brand (Zukhra Inat),

Markhamat Umarova and Hilola Sher presented their

collections. The curator of the exhibition was art critic

Binafsha Nodir. She also commented on the creation

and opening of the exhibition: “About four years ago I

was leafing through old magazines from the 60s and

saw interesting models that are still very relevant

today. The new is always the forgotten old. If we talk

about fashion, then festivals and fashion weeks

immediately come to mind.”

In November 2022, the first exhibition entitled

“Treasures of the Oases of Uzbekistan” was

held in

Paris at the Louvre Museum. At the intersection of

caravan routes." The second exhibition was held at the

Institute of the Arab World, “The Road to Samarkand,

the Wonders of Silk and Gold.”

In the period from 2017 to the present, our country has

established creative contacts, our exhibition spaces

have been provided to the art of different countries.

We tried to differentiate the exhibitions of foreign art

in Uzbekistan and received an interesting picture that

reflected the historical period in which we live, its

pulsation, its political, social, moral, creative issues, the

desire of representatives of different peoples, cultures

at the turn of centuries, millennia to understand each

other, establish a dialogue. In the future, exhibition

activities include the expansion and deepening of

existing creative contacts with embassies, foreign

organizations, cultural centers, and acquaintance with

the art of countries that have not yet been presented

to the Uzbek audience.

CONCLUSION

Based on the above, we can say that the exhibition is

the result not only of a social order, but also the result

of the educational work of employees of exhibition

halls and museums, as well as teachers of educational

institutions in the field of museum affairs. Thus, the

interaction of all participants in a multi-level

sociocultural space increases the level of art education

of students and introduces young people to artistic

creativity in the process of organizing exhibition

activities. Today's art museums and exhibition halls of

Uzbekistan act as a sociocultural educational object,
